What is Frisbee Golf?

Teeing Off!Frisbee Golf, also called “Disc Golf”, is basically golf with a Frisbee rather than a ball and club. In the game of Frisbee golf, the player throws a Frisbee towards a marker; much like a traditional golfer hits a ball towards a hole. Like in ordinary golf, the goal is to hit the marker with your Frisbee in as few throws as possible.

More advanced disc golf players (yes, there is such a thing as advanced disc golf players) carry an array of discs intended for different distances, much like a set of traditional golf clubs. For the purposes of our tournament, though, each player will be issued one standard disc (which you are free to take home). You can read more about disc golf.

Our course is set in the beautiful hills and fields of Strathgartney Provincial Park. Like a traditional golf-course, there are 18 “holes”. Each hole has a marked “tee-off” area (photo) and a wooden pole marker that serves as the “hole” (photo). Each hole has a par, marked on the sign at the tee.

Tournament Rules

  1. Disc golf is played like ball golf, using flying discs. One stroke is counted each time the disc is thrown. The winner is the golfer with the lowest score. Scoring for the tournament is on the honour system.
  2. All entrants must use the discs provided for the tournament.
  3. Teams will complete the course in groups of 6. Please try to keep moving so we can get everyone through the course at a reasonable pace.
  4. You must tee off behind the designated tee markers.
  5. Throws must be taken from the spot the disc lands unless your throw goes out of bounds. You may take a short run to throw the disc, but you must release the disc before you pass the place where your disc originally landed.
  6. A hole is only complete when the disc strikes the white marker on top of the pole.
  7. If your disc goes out of bounds (deep into the trees, in a stream, etc.) you have the option of taking your throw from the place the disc entered the out of bounds area. There is a one a stroke penalty for doing so.
  8. Never throw until the players ahead of you are out of range, and until the fairway is completely clear of spectators and park guests.
  9. Have fun, and good luck!
